What is the best online stock-trading company?
I had a really bad experience with E-Trade. What is a company that you can trust with your money, that doesn't have any hidden fees, including maintenance fees, and has a relatively low price per trade? E-Trade "lost" $1000 of my money before I was able to buy a single share of stock from them. My grievance with them is very legitimate.

- i have used scottrade for years. 7 bucks a trade. very few exceptions. Always very willing to work we me on extra things.
- Scottrade is very good for the experienced trader. Schwab is very good for the newbe as well as the serious investor. ThinkOrSwim is another idea for the very experianced swing or day trader. All brokers will give you a description of their fees. It's not E-Trades fault that you were hit with a fee. You'll most likely get hit with a $50-$100 fee for closing the account. This is a normal business practice. Don't blame a broker for your errors. It's like getting a stock tip... losing and then blaming the person that gave you the tip. All responsibility lies with you.
- I like Charles Schwab. Clean, no mistakes, inexpensive. There are a few that are a little bit cheaper per trade, but the small savings is not worth the worry to me. I am impressed by the level of training of their personnel. Whenever I need to talk with someone, whoever answers the phone always knows all the answers. No "let me put you on hold" or "I'll have to transfer you elsewhere". They all just know it all. And, no offshore.
- Scottrade might be a good choice for you (although, I may be a little bias). You can view Scottrade's fees and commissions at: http://www.scottrade.com/online_trading_commissions/investment_fees.asp and compare them to other brokers at: http://www.scottrade.com/online_broker_comparison/discount_brokerage_comparison.asp I hope this information helps you in your decision making process.
