- Ah, if I knew that for sure, I'd be a rich man. I don't know and neither does anyone else, but I follow the market pretty closely and here's what I'm expecting: I think the current rally is nearly over (of course I thought that a week ago too) and we will soon see another selloff. How long and how far is hard to say. The current bull market has been going on longer than average, so it's certainly possible that we will soon hit a major correction or bear market that lasts months and drops the major averages by 10-20%. I'm not predicting that, but I think it's possible. It could be triggered by any of a number of things - a political crisis, rising oil prices, a terrorist attack, a financial crisis in some country somewhere in the world, spreading of the subprime mortgage problems and a resulting further decline in real estate, or any of a bunch of other things. After the correction/bear is over, I would expect the market to resume climbing and be higher than it is currently by the end of the year (or if we have a bear market, then sometime next year). Could the market just keep rising? Sure, but I think the odds are against that at this point. I would not go "all in" right now.
