stock market?
Where can I go to learn about how the stock market works for free? I am interested in starting to invest money, but I want to be knowledgeable enough to pick the stocks myself. Thanks for the help.

- Go to www.sharebuilder.com. The information is free and the cost of purchasing stocks is very reasonable.
- try the Yahoo! Finance page (quote.yahoo.com). I would suggest setting up a mock portfolio and tracking some stocks you've picked - whether random issues or companies you are interested it. To begin I would recommend the 'buy what you know' strategy (i.e. if you drink a lot of Coca Cola, follow the stock, if you use a certain type of tooth paste follow the stock, if you only buy Honda's follow the stock etc. etc.) In the span of the month or so (however long it takes you to feel comfortable) that you are trading for fun read the news, follow the markets and see how the stocks you've picked react - it always helps to familiarize yourself with the language of the markets before putting money on the line -because when you do the entire game changes :) Good luck. PS: Don't read the message boards for stocks, IMHO.
- I takes many years to learn how to invest in the stock market. Unfortunately you will make mistakes and it will cost you money. Try investing in mutual funds first until you get a little more saavy with what is going on. Please read my profile and we can chat.
