How long a short-sell position can be hold by a retail investor of Indian Stock Market?

Is it mandatory to square-off a short-sell the same day (intra-day)? What are risks involved? I m new to share market pls answer my queries.

1. Depends on how much margin you have left and the volatility of the stock, run out of margin and you get a margin call.
2. This cannot be done with a cash account.
