Stock Markets Exposed

Want to start a stock trading society in my university?

I want to start a society in my university dedicated to virtual stock trading. The idea of the society would be that students would trade stocks over a simulator, e.g. Investopedia and every couple of months a cash prize would be given to the highest performer. How should I go about doing this? Is it possible to use a simulator such as the one on Investopedia for this purpose? I would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me. Serious answers only please.

  1. Talk to the head of the finance department. They probably already do this, without the cash prizes. Some universities have simulated trading floors.
  2. yes you could do that BUT why not do the real thing ? with a group of friends giving the same amount each month then choosing which sectors / companies to buy into...
  3. You could try and contact a web developer to program it for you, but that is going to cost money.
  4. Yahoo finance will allow you to set up portfolios. No limit on the number. A central secretary needs to track the investment buys and sells. Everyone starts with the same amount. More interesting if that is large enough to allow more than a few stocks....100k is good. Each participant can make purchases, EOD is best because you can manage prices rather than having one guy say I got it at the low of the day and sold at the high of the day. Each meeting needs a topic. Stocks, calls, covered calls, moving averages, stochastics.... Leadership is required. Effort is required. It is a worthy endeavor...good luck.
