Stock Markets Exposed

when black friday comes, and the holidays come, does the stock market go up to sales?

im doing an economics assignment for school and I want to know two things: which parts of the economy are not harmed when the economy goes down (which people can make money if the economy is down)

  1. Black Friday has little to do with the overall stock market performance. Instead of looking at black friday, I would look at Retail Sales numbers. Retail Sales in the last two months of the year have potential to move the markets (up or down) Retail sales are sometimes a direct indication of consumer confidence.
  2. For the most part, I agree with BaseballFan4ever. Howeve, retailers often report that Black Friday sales were disappointing or higher than normal, which feeds into consumer sentiment. Those reports can drive short term trading higher or lower over the short term. Over the longer term, the Retails Sales data and earnings reports factor into a stock price more than holiday sales.
