2. In the U.S. the remaining 2009 bank holidays are as follows: Monday September 7th Monday October 12th* Wednesday November 11th* Thurday November 26th Friday December 25th *Notes that while banks are closed the stock market is still open.
3. NO. If we were going to have a bank holiday, it would have happened last fall. Remember when Lehman bros., Merill Lynch, Bear Sterns were failing, along with worries that money markets were not dollar good?? The first bank holiday happened during the great depression. That was to put in place mechanisms to deal with bank failures. Now that machinery is in place. The Office of Thrift Supervision steps in & takes over banks. They then arrange mergers with stronger banks, or they liquidate the bank. If liquidation, the FDIC pays off depositors. The Office of Thrift Supervision is well aware of the problem banks. What is it you think will happen in the next 60 days to cause a bank holiday??
