- Never rely on computer software to "pick stocks." Fundamental research is thre only way.
- Hmmm, that depends. Are you looking for a trading system or investment system? In other words, short term trading or long term investing? When it comes to trading (short term), yes, there are several trading software programs out there that, CAN, assist you. However, NONE of them are bullet proof. Statistically speaking, more than 60% of all the trades being placed everyday are from computer programs just firing off trades when targets are hit. The key to really getting any benefit from anyone of the programs is customizing it to your own risk levels. Basically, coming up with your own combination of indicators, testing it, and letting the software do the searching for you. When the software finds a trade that meets all YOUR criteria, it will fire off a trade. It is true that the software comes with pre-configured for you, but if those systems actually worked even 50% of the time, everyone from top hedge fund managers to the average joe would be using it. So, yes, they are good and can assist you, but, in order to really take advantage of the software, you have to use the tools built into the software to customize it. - If you are looking for technical analysis software, I have been experimenting with Metastock for about a year. Be prepared though - it is very in depth (i've barely even scratched the surface of its capabilities) and you need to subscribe to a data feed to update your list of equities.
