What kinds of events causes the stock market (NY,Nasdaq) to go down? What events causes it to go up?

examples of re-occurrences would be helpful. thanks

  1. Buyers and sellers trade on news, earnings, technical and fundamental analysis and other events where they see opportunity to make money in up or down markets, or exit their position when risk seems too high.
  2. greed causes it to go up. fear causes it to go down.
  3. years ago it used to be that owners of large amounts of stock would buy and sell to play the game of moving it up and down so they could purchase the stock at low prices, sell at high and make a mint. That's against the law now, I believe. They say the economy is no longer tied to the stock market. If that's what you were asking.
  4. It is nothing but gambling on high stake by poor persons and is just entertainment of rich ones.
