What was the government response to the 1929 stock market crash?

- well it was Hoover, and of course, he did nothing. Hoover thought the economy would fix itself if the American citizens worked together and became more productive. this was known as voluntarism. Hoover also raised tariffs for foreign farm goods, called the Hawley-Smoot Tariff. this was a big mistake because other nations reacted by raising their prices on American goods.
