Where should I invest my money in the stock market at the moment?

I'm 25 yrs old and have approximately 2-3 thousand dollars to play with. I'd like to invest it in the stock market where I could make substantial gains in the next 6-12 months. Any serious advice? Thanks

2. What do you define as "substantial"? Right now many be a good time to get back into Techs, but the most solid bet for the next 6-12 months is probably in Ag. Look at POT, MOS, and DE.
3. Stock markets may be not such a good idea at this very moment for beginners. This is my personal believe. Warren Buffet is buying and selling every day but he knows what he is doing. It may be soon the time to buy. Most is expecting a down hill expedition on the stock markets - a crash that is. When that happens you MUST buy. But till then, beginners must be careful now. If you really insist, look at a company's intrinsic value. You can look at the price of a share vs its dividends. When you take the dividends that a company pays out and divide it into the price, you get an idea of the value. The higher that figure is, the better the share if there is not any thing wrong with it. Then there's the thing of averages. 5 weeks, 13 weeks, etc. You have graphs and it shows if the company goes up and down. Difficult to explain in a YA...
