How do you play the virtual stock market?

I have no knowledge whatsoever about the stock market or how it works and I can't seem to figure it out. So how do you play it?

1. Research 10 comapnies that you think will do well over the next six months and research them. Narrow your list down to 5 and then track the stock price on a daily basis using the newspaper. You can go to yahoo finance in order to learn how to read the stock quotes.
