Stock Markets Exposed

How much do you think the news media influences the stock market?

how so? Do you think that it is important in investing to keep up with what "the herd" has heard? And how this will supposedly be "bad" or "good"? Is that what CNBC is for?

Public Comments

  1. This has been asked before. If you are an investor then what is important is your own analysis of a stock based on fundamentals and charts. If significant new information comes to light then react. The only other thing you need to track currently is the price of commodities and the general direction of the markets. CNBC is there to sell advertising.
  2. Not much
  3. It DEFINITELY influences the stock market - if the news reports that a company is doing badly, no one will want to buy shares, affecting their price on the stock market. Have you seen the film Fun with Dick & Jane? I love the bit where Jim Carrey is supposed on be on a news programme trying to defend his company and the stock price is shown on the screen plummeting as he's talking. Just sums it up for me.
  4. Yes do what 90% do when investing, follow the crowd, panic and jump about a lot.Talk to your financial advisers(even when they lose all your money for you, don't worry because they have taken there% there will always be another sucker just around the corner) they know best that's why they are rich and you are not. When you ask what has happened to your shares in African slavery they will say "O" its a market correction.
  5. YES,IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THEY INFLUENCES THE STOCK MARKET...........
  6. Well, Warren Buffett has done pretty well in the stock market by not paying the least bit of attention to the news. He concentrates on looking for value in the company itsself.
  7. CNBC is the financial porn channel
  8. They can only produce small fluctuations - they don't and can't dictate trends. I'd also watch their recommendations - they usually are pushing their own agenda in some way or another - or trying to push up stocks they hold themselves. Work from your own research in the end and trust your own judgement. Most of the business news is pretty poor - it concentrates on very small differences over a day - if the market 'soars' 5% one day and 'plummets' 5% the next then you know what; NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. Only fund managers with £1billion to spare can do something about it anyway.
