Is it possible for me to invest in the US stock market while residing in Saudi Arabia? How?

I am a Filipino citizen who wanted to invest in the US stock market but is presently residing in Saudi Arabia.

  1. I think you can. Just open an account with a US based brokerage firm. I have an account at Charles Schwab, try them. www.charlesschwab.com.
  2. Saudi banks sell shares of mutual funds that are invested in various stock markets, including the US stock market. And you probably can invest through a Saudi bank in your area. But with you being a foreigner in Saudi Arabia. You may have to leave the country on a short notice. You would have to liquidate your investment as soons as possible. And you can end up loosing some of your money as a result. I suggest that you find a bank or a brokerage in the Philippines that allows stock trading in US markets through the internet. And open an account with them. You will have access to your account through the internet even from Saudi Arabia. And you won't have to worry about having to take your money out on a short notice. I don't think you can open an account directly in USA. You have to be a US resident in order to have an account there.
  3. 1) Yes. 2) E*Trade.
