- Of the ones on your list: Pick FAIRX or MSFT if you want to play it sensible and conservative. (In real life I'd pick FAIRX for the long term.) Maybe RGEN just if you want to gamble. FAIRX is a mutual fund, not a stock. It's an excellent long-term holding but I'm not sure it'll move much one way or the other in your 9 week time frame. (And a time frame of 9 weeks is too short to teach you much.) MAPTX is also a fund, but it's specializing in Asian emerging markets, so it will be a lot more volatile. NKE (Nike) is fairly priced (neither under- nor over-priced); similarly AYR, an aerospace company, CPE, a petroleum company, and ENER, an energy company, are fairly priced. The last two may be volatile just as all energy-related things are recently. But I'd rate them all as "OK" investments. XM still can't make a profit after all this time, and if it hooks up with Sirius which ALSO can't make a profit...you'll have a single bigger company that can't make a profit. XM is probably the worst choice on your list. Microsoft (MSFT) is probably your best bet of the stocks; it's cheap right now. The only possible problem is this Yahoo offer -- but it probably won't affect you much in 9 weeks. RGEN is a gamble but at least there's hope in the recent activity that it may come home a winner for you. This is the kind of stock I would never touch in real life but since you're playing a game... maybe. P.S. I didn't check the price limit you mentioned against these, partly because it doesn't make much sense. But if those are the rules, you can recheck that yourself at Yahoo Finance.
