Stock Markets Exposed

How can I practice portfolio investment without putting any money?

I am interested in learning investing in a portfolio but I do not want to invest money until i fully understand and grasp the concepts. I want to set up an account with "fake money" if that is possible and track my stocks and learn from my mistakes. Is this possible? I have checked out sites such as etrade, fidelity, and vanguard but they all require you to deposit in order to use the service and their investment tools. Are there any sites out there where they offer portfolio softwares and analysis for free so that I can start learning based on how the market changes daily (rather than buying a book and reading the concepts, and never really using it in real life applications. )

  1. Monopoly $$$
  2. No, but I would highly recommend Vanguard's Total Stock Index Fund for a lot of good reasons. There are many. You would be buying everytype of stock there is in America. That's one biggie..Good luck.
  3. Investopedia.com
  4. I don't think there is a place to practice. Maybe you can invent the software, it's a great idea. People would love to practice before jumping in with real money.
  5. Just paper trade or demo at fxtrade.com
  6. I would try this site: http://vse.marketwatch.com/Game/Homepage.aspx I have not tried it personally, but I know about 10 years or so I was using something similiar when I wa sin high school and wanted to learn about the market with fake money. There must still be sites like that out there.
