On what holidays is the stock market closed? I'm trying to calculate how much interest my saving account earns per day, but I have to subtract weekends and whatever holidays the Stock Market observes. I'm just not sure which ones.
Why stock market closed on Good Friday? This is a religious holiday but not a bank holiday, so why is it that stock market closed? Harry P ("otter"? ) is confused about the question. It is not religious in nature. It is historical one. I am not asking "should it be closed", I am asking why is it closed. After all it is not a bank holiday or a federal holiday. Harry, may be I would want to ask about Columbus day LOL. It does seem to be illogical to close just exchange . I have no problem celebrating Chrismas :) , but EVERYTHING is closed on that day! Get the point? Britain, Canada , Australia has a STATE level holiday not just for exchanges and your answer "it is because it is" does not cut it for me.
Do stocks go up or down during the holidays? Im new and confused on the stock market. So i dont even know if it's kosher to ask this question without ending up like Martha Stewart but in general do stocks go up or down during the holidays? Or is it even applicable? Im sure it depends on the stock and its all a gamble but can anyone help me? is it a great thing to have stocks around the holidays? If my fingers are crossed to see my stocks boost up do u think the holidays is a good time for that to happen?
Companies to invest in a Stock Market Game? i am in a school game that gives you $200,000 fake money to invest in companies, and the winner gets an award at the end of the year. are there any good companies that will do well through the winter (holiday seasons) and afterwards. the game ends in spring
Is it moral to take a profit from the stock market? What if you knew that profit came from businesses that required employees to work on the sabbath? on religious holidays (such as Christmas)? What if it were only possible (instead of certain) that the profit came from these reasons, i.e. your stock was part of a mutual fund? What if the profits came from increased employee work load and coercion to employees to work overtime (unpaid in the case of salaried workers?) Can unregulated capitalism be Christian? Are we so addicted to our consumerism that not one person will even consider that our pursuit of wealth and goods may be doing spiritual harm? True the old testament said that prosperity was an indicator of God's blessing, but the new testament and Christ's own words are full of admonitions to the rich: It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages of the labourers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You may not think yourself rich, but if you are an American you are richer than the majority of the earth's population. If you have a car or a computer or central heating you are wealthier than most. And I have not even asked about the morality of being wealthy, I have asked about the morality of being wealthy at someone else's expense. And what answers? Ignorance as an excuse? It takes no research to know that one particular retail chain doesn't pay a livable wage, that it requires it's employees to work holidays and evenings and nights. It's impossible, unrealistic, too difficult, but this is the society we have created for ourselves. This society was not thrust upon us. I will not begrudge anyone the opportunity for a more comfortable life, but isn't there an obligation to work as a whole to change our values? The people in America who call themselves Christians waste no opportunity to condemn homosexuality, which Christ mentions not once. These same people condemn every effort our government makes to comfort the poor, protect the weak or nurse the sick, yet Christ devotes more words to comforting the weak, the sick and the poor than to almost any other topic. Have our ministers and pastors and priests become so corrupt and so enthralled to the donations that build their megachurches that they allow people to maintain the illusion our American money is a special kind that doesn't corrupt. Has God been replaced by the free market?

What do you think of the stock and where do you see it going in the short and long term? Also any opinion on strong stocks that will go up for the holidays or from now til the end of the year? The U.S. stock markets are open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays. so.....why??? I am edt. I'm talking about the new "my yahoo!" page that now shows cst update on stock market quotes. How do I get this back to current eastern like it was before?today.
Why is Columbus day not a real holiday? Stock market is open. It's closed for most other holidays. Over the years, Chris Columbus is being portrayed as a less than legitimate explorer. I heard all the stories, but the facts seem oblitered by the time passage. Does this holiday have anything to do with the deminishing of Catholicism? Excuse my typos. Obliterated. Diminishing.
Question about short term Circuit City stock buy? I am a buy and hold investor personally. My good friend, who is young and can afford toplay the market with some of his money just purchased 400 shares of circuit city stock. I personally do not like the company or its long term outlook. He however has been doing some research and feels the stock will go up from its current low during the holiday buying season and plans to sell sometime nov-jan before it comes back down. Has anyone else heard of or done this? What is the best time to sell this stock which is obviously not a long term performer? What news should he look for when determining to sell? The company is 93% owned by institutional investors which is good for his situation.

Can Britain or the developed world manage a day without work? This question is in response to the recent news of an extra bank holiday. It was argued by some that industry would loose billions. Is this true? Real billions or billionson paper? If it was possible and all of industry agreed could it be done (a day off) or would it affect other areas like the stock market etc. If this is the case would it have applied back in 1970's, 50's or 30's as an example? Or even pre industrial revolution or medieval or roman times? Is it because our economies are more closely linked than those back in Roman times?

Do I have the right to hate my own father? My dad and mom have been together 18 years. She is filing for divorce after the holidays. My dad never plays games with us, never goes out to eat with us, won't watch movies with us, and won't go to my brother's baseball games. He has never been to any of my or my brothers school functions and he doesn't go to church with us. My parents got in a fight earlier, and my dad said infront of me and my brother, that he doesn't give a f*ck about us. He has been buying alcohol, cigars, and porn and he threatened to hit my mom. He even told us one time that he will hang out with us once we are older. My mom has to do everything for us. My dad even put 3 times as much as my mom in their retirement funds. My dad buys things and does stuff on impulse all the time, and lost us a lot of money in the stock market. He only wants me when it's a good time for him. He makes promises he never keeps, and complains about how much my mom spends on food, when she uses coupons and rebates. He also said that he would not stop doing it, he would rather have the porn, cigars, and alcohol than us. My mom has been saving up money for incase something happens. We are staying with him during the holidays because he works a lot extra and we can get the money. My parents have not went out in over 15 years. My dad hates vacations, when he goes he sleeps in the hotel all day and complains and wants to go home. He only wants me for the glory, when I'm a doctor. I will not have him walk me down the isle or even attend my wedding. He expects my mom to clean, cook, and take care of us. He is pretty much worthless, only a pay check. He only thinks of himself.
Does anyone know any good companies that are ready to soar? Im going to invest $1000 in the stock market in a couple of weeks before the holiday and looking for some tips.I dont want any "go to your broker" advice. I want someone who has done some research for themselves and can help me out. I'm looking for FAST growth. I do believe dksc is going to do very well in the comming weeks and months. In fact they are my only choice right now. Any advice for this gambler? I just want to make the best educated guess possible. Also, What is the outlook on the market next year? With a new president elect. what affect does that make on the economy. Will if for instance Hillary Clinton .D. is the new president; what could that do for the market?
What will happen to Malaysia if non-malays leave? I understand most of the chinese have left Malaysia, and now the indians are angry with malaysia and slowly moving out. What do you think will happen to Malaysia when the country has only malays left? Will the bumiputra policies still be relevant or will some malays claim to be MORE malay than others to get benefits under the system? There will no longer be any chinese new year and deepavali and malaysia will be short of a few public holidays. All companies will shut down 5 times a day for sembayang and the stock market will be have its boards without any activity for 5 times daily. Once the mosque sounds the prayer call, all traffic comes to a standstill and the hawker leaves the food half-cooked. Will such a country progress or become a laughing stock of Asia? Do you think allah had the foresight for this?
If Star Signs were replaced with business signs, which would you be? 1) MARKETING You are ambitious yet stupid. You chose a marketing degree to avoid having To study in college, concentrating instead on drinking and socializing Which is pretty much what your job responsibilities are now. Least Compatible with Sales. 2) SALES Laziest of all signs, often referred to as "marketing without a degree." You are also self-centered and paranoid. Unless someone calls you and begs You to take their money, you like to avoid contact with customers so you Can "concentrate on the big picture." You seek admiration for your golf Game throughout your life. 3) TECHNOLOGY Unable to control anything in your personal life, you are instead content to completely control everything that happens at your workplace. Often even YOU don't understand what you are saying but who the hell can tell. It is written that Geeks shall inherit the Earth. 4) ENGINEERING One of only two signs that you actually studied in school. It is said that engineers place ninety percent of all Personal Ads. You can be happy with yourself; your office is full of all the latest "ergo dynamic" gadgets. However, we all know what is really causing your "carpal tunnel syndrome." 5) ACCOUNTING The only other sign that you studied in school. You are mostly immune from office politics. You are the most feared person in the organization; combined with your extreme organizational traits, the majority of rumors concerning you say that you are completely insane. 6) HUMAN RESOURCES Ironically, given your access to confidential information, you tend to be the biggest gossip within the organization. Possibly the only other person that does less work than marketing, you are unable to return any calls today because you have to get a haircut, have lunch AND then mail a letter. 7) MANAGEMENT/MIDDLE MANAGEMENT Catty, cutthroat, yet completely spineless, you are destined to remain at your current job for the rest of your life. Unable to make a single decision you tend to measure your worth by the number of meetings you can schedule for yourself. Best suited to marry other "Middle Managers" as everyone in your social circle is a "Middle Manager." 8) CUSTOMER SERVICE Bright, cheery, positive, you are a fifty-cent cab ride from taking your own life. As children very few of you asked your parents for a little cubicle for your room and a headset so you could pretend to play "Customer Service." Continually passed over for promotions, your best bet is to sleep with your manager. 9) CONSULTANT Lacking any specific knowledge, you use acronyms to avoid revealing your utter lack of experience. You have convinced yourself that your "skills" are in demand and that you could get a higher paying job with any other organization in a heartbeat. You will spend an eternity contemplating these career opportunities without ever taking direct action. 10) RECRUITER, "HEADHUNTER" As a "person" that profits from the success of others, most people who actually work for a living disdain you. Paid on commission and susceptible to alcoholism, your ulcers and frequent heart attacks correspond directly with fluctuations in the stock market. 11) PARTNER, PRESIDENT, CEO You are brilliant or lucky. Your inability to figure out complex systems such as the fax machine suggest the latter. 12) GOVERNMENT WORKER Paid to take days off. Government workers are genius inventors, like the Invention of new Holidays. They usually suffer from deep depression or Anxiety and usually commit serious crimes while on the job ... Thus the Term "GO POSTAL"
Do you fancy a holiday on Mars? The year is 2222 and Mike and Maureen land on Mars after accumulating enough Frequent Flier miles. They meet a Martian couple and are talking about all sorts of things. Mike asks if Mars has a stock market, if they have laptop computers, how they make money, etc. Finally, Maureen brings up the subject of sex. 'Just how do you guys do it?' asks Maureen. The Martian responds, 'Pretty much the way you do.' A discussion ensues and finally the couples decide to swap partners for the night and experience one another.. Maureen and the male Martian go off to a bedroom where the Martian strips. He's got only a teeny, weenie member about half an inch long and just a quarter-inch thick. 'I don't think this is going to work,' says Maureen. 'Why he asks. 'What's the matter?' 'Well,' she replies, 'it's just not long enough to reach me!' 'No problem,' he says, and proceeds to slap his forehead with his palm. With each slap of his forehead, his member grows until it's quite impressively long. 'Well,' she says, 'that's quite impressive, but it is still narrow.' 'No problem,' he says, and starts pulling his ears. With each pull, his member grows wider and wider until the entire measurement is extremely exciting to the woman. 'Wow!' she exclaims, as they fell into bed and made mad passionate love. The next day the couples rejoin their other partners and go their separate ways. As they walked along, Mike asks, 'Well, was it any good?' 'I hate to say it,' says Maureen, 'but it was wonderful. How about you?' 'It was horrible,' he replies. 'All I got was a headache. She kept slapping my forehead and pulling my ears
Some people are saying that Hillary Clinton is increasingly likely to be the next president...60% chance? http://www.lewrockwell.com/rozeff/rozeff163.html Hillary Clinton is more and more likely to become the next President of the United States. The price of her nomination contract on Intrade has jumped to the 60 area, meaning she has a 60 percent chance of winning the nomination. No one else is even close. The market thinks that Bill Richardson is likely to be her running mate. Speculators think that this ticket will win the election, although they are not as sure of that. They are very sure that Democrats will retain both Senate and House control. A Clinton II presidency will affect taxes, stock and bond prices, dollar and gold prices, and a great deal else. Speculators and planners will be watching closely her every word in order to discern the material impacts of her possible policies. Long before she is elected, asset prices will begin to move in anticipation of potential legislation and policy changes. There are certain areas that Hillary Clinton is very interested in that will affect many Americans and the portfolios of many Americans. Interesting questions arise. Will Bill Clinton serve in a new Clinton administration? Will he have a marked influence on Hillary’s policies? Will her fiscal and monetary policies look like his? Will she be her own woman? I will briefly summarize a few of Hillary’s currently indicated directions. This usually is a valuable exercise. Elected officials often follow the signals they emit during their campaigns. But it is an iffy exercise. Events overtake a president and lead to unexpected twists and turns. I also cannot resist offering a few of my own jaundiced reflections. It is extremely difficult to watch multiple American tragedies unfolding before our eyes and not say something about them. And who knows? Maybe Hillary or someone close to her will read this and see some light. Hillary would like to end the war in Iraq. Bill Richardson even more plainly wants to end it. The idea is to shift the $450 billion going into warfare into domestic concerns like health care, education, and energy. Such a platform is a sure winner. But Richardson as Vice-President will have limited influence. Hillary will find herself drawn into the foreign policy game just as her husband was. Hillary as President will curtail U.S. military operations in Iraq but not end them. She has promised to end the war, but at the same time she promises to transform and continue it. She says she will retain a significant force and continue to try to produce country-wide military and police forces, attack terrorists, and provide materiel. She will call for more equipment for the area and fewer personnel. She will talk tough to Iraq’s leaders. Her promise to end the war is an empty one. Since she and the U.S. establishment want to produce a stable Iraq allied to the U.S., she can’t end the war because that will produce the opposite consequences. Iraq will disappear and be replaced by a partitioned country with many frictions: between Iranian and Iraqi Shiites, between Iraqi Shiite factions, between Sunnis and Shiites, between Turkey and Kurds, etc. The bloodthirsty terrorists of Al-Qaeda will ally themselves with whomever they can to lever their position. Events in Iraq are unpredictable. Both the U.S. and Hillary are willing hostages to them. Even under the cover of a democracy, a strong man could arise, another Saddam. Which way will Hillary go? Will she bite the bullet and withdraw, letting the chips fall where they may? Or will she succumb to the urge to shape events and control Iraq’s future? Like her husband, she will do both. She will straddle the issue. Just as he bombed and bombed, she will try to substitute equipment for manpower. She will withdraw some men but not all; and she will not withdraw power and interference. She will compromise between those voices urging faster exit and those counseling disaster if she withdraws too quickly. In other words, the war will drag on until the balance of power shifts to install a regime or regimes that keep power. Hillary on the Iraq War is a continuing disaster. She will not exercise a foreign policy leadership that will make a real difference. She has already joined others in her party who promise to heat up U.S. efforts in Afghanistan. Adjacent Pakistan also continues to heat up as another hot spot. On energy, Hillary is a booster of the Apollo Alliance. She supports renewable energy sources, ethanol, biofuels, clean coal, and measures to reduce global warming, which are all popular but costly, wasteful, and ineffective ideas. None of these measures will reduce America’s oil dependence, as she claims to want. Only a big shift into nuclear power will accomplish that. However, she is at best lukewarm and/or really cold on nuclear power plants. She thinks the public is against them ("so hard to site them") and that they cost too much ("so hard to fund them.") Since she could exercise leadership on nuclear power and isn’t, she is unlikely to go in that direction. Instead, in a speech on Feb. 26, 2007, she called for an Apollo Project for energy that would end "tax breaks for big oil" and subsidize research and development of clean fuels. Hillary on energy is a disaster, but so has been every administration for a long time. U.S. energy policy is a huge and stupid tragedy, and Hillary will play a lead role in continuing it. Hillary hasn’t moved an inch on HillaryCare. The Congress, with benighted public support, has moved in her direction, enacting universal health care piece by piece. Hillary will extend health care benefits and introduce price controls on insurers. She wants full and universal coverage for all Americans. On paper everyone will have health care. In reality, there will be rationing and price controls. American health care will deteriorate even further. Will Americans care? Will they fly to India or Thailand where they can get better, faster, and cleaner health care? Hardly likely. Unlike Canadians suffering with their national health care system who have been coming here, where will Americans turn? They will wait, suffer, and die before their time. The only bright side is that this will provide a background for those who see some advantage in running against the system and drastically changing it. Nothing less will suffice at this point than completely dismantling the health care monstrosity. Hillary on health care is a continuing disaster. George Bush II played his role in this tragedy by introducing the prescription drug benefit and failing to reform the system in any way. In another sign that she does not understand economics and/or wants to make political hay, Hillary wants women by law to be paid the same as men are. This sounds good to untutored American ears, who think this is a matter of simple justice. However, if women were systematically being underpaid for no good reasons, wouldn’t those same businessmen who are supposed to be so greedy rush in and hire them at $0.75 on the dollar? Shawn Ritenour explains some of those good reasons for men-women pay differentials here, and Thomas E. Woods, Jr. explains that "never-married women of comparable education and experience and who work full time have the same incomes as their male counterparts" here. Raising women’s pay above the market level that takes into account compensating differentials (related to such factors as on-the-job training, length of tenure, job interruption, and time spent with family) will put women out of work. In an interesting pair of contradictory statements from the Hillary campaign site from which I draw her positions, we are told that "Hillary has stood firm as an advocate for a woman's right to choose." Hillary favors Roe v Wade. She is in favor of abortion. But a few sentences later we read this: "As president, Hillary will continue her lifelong fight to ensure that all Americans are treated with respect and dignity." Apparently, babies in the womb do not count as Americans. Moreover, Hillary is known as a champion of children: "America is ready for a president who fights for our children." She has a long slate of legislation relating to children, including a new proposal to extend pre-kindergarten schools to all 4-year-olds. Why then does she not favor the babies who would be born? Maybe it’s because they can’t vote. Hillary on the American family is yet another continuing disaster. In the Clinton II realm, the government will step up its invasion of the family. The State long ago crossed the boundary into American family life in a largely unnoticed and unheralded stealth invasion. Hillary will extend the State’s victory over the American family and consolidate that control. Like all presidents, Hillary can be counted on to push for a number of favorite hobby-horses. Hers are many. They include public schools in overseas countries, support of Israel, government reform, voting reform (including same-day registration and an Election Day holiday), and working with the U.N. Political government under Hillary will grow larger, just as it has under just about every president ever elected. This process can go on for some time as there is a lot of ruin in a country. When major American establishment figures start talking different games than the ones we’ve been hearing for the last 100 years, then we’ll know that some real change is in the air. This has not happened yet. In the meantime, the only consolation is that the State is running into diminishing returns. We can see this in the projected deficits to fund the government’s programs. We can see it in the difficulties and cutbacks in countries overseas. Economics is a constraint on how far the State can go. Clinton II will be operating under constraints. Unfortunately, they are not yet tight enough to prevent her from continuing the tragic policies of her predecessors and placing her own personal stamp upon them. --------------------------- Mitt Romney would lose against her. Giuliani would lose against her. Thompson would lose against her. The only people I could see beating her are possibly Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul. What do you think?

Do I have... problems? Let me just start this off right away by saying I'm pregnant. My family was never the type to be huggy huggy "I love you" please tell me all about your feeeeeelings kind of family. We get together, have a couple of beers, talk about the stock market, and then move on. Nothing personal. Know what I mean? We live near my family and my husband's family lives two plane rides away. This is the first grandchild on both sides (lucky me). My parents are very much treating me as if I'm still a person with other things going on in my life besides harboring a fetus. We can talk about the usual stuff, you know what I mean? My in laws however (particularly my mother in law of course) are not so relaxed. My husband calls on holidays and just about every other weekend. Every phone call the interrogation begins. Every weekend she emails me nothing but pregnancy questions. Why don't you find out if it's a girl or a boy, are you seeing a midwife or a doctor, do they come to your house or do you go there ...is she showing yet? Is she feeling sick? How sick? Every day? It's getting to the point where I am feeling very... violated? And it's starting to weigh heavily on my mind. Why can't I just be like the women on tv who have aggressive mothers in law yet are still not bothered by them when they're not physically around? WHY AM I SO BOTHERED? I am starting to think I do have issues. My husband of course is sympathetic, but he keeps telling me I need to relax. It's just the way she asks the questions, not so much the questions that bother me... She sounds as if she's asking questions in regards to some life or death scenario, when it's just a baby and I'm still... six months away from my due date. Not to mention after avoiding us for years she's coming down to see us when I'm in my last trimester and I had to say NO you're not coming to stay with us as soon as we have the baby, we'll go see you once the baby is ready. As soon as I told her I was due in October she said Oh okay we'll fly down in October! And since then I have been having nothing but nightmares about her and my pregnancy. Yes? Well at this point I must say you're probably right on the money. Lol... You guys, I stopped answering the questions weeks ago. It was insane. Now if I email her it is only non pregnancy related. She is relentless, asking the same questions again and again. You're right I shouldn't let it bother me, but I can't help it... If I could go back, I honestly wouldn't have gotten pregnant, I would have waited until her daughter (her favorite) was pregnant so I could have been ignored. At this point a bit of ignoring would be a dream come true.

Yahoo finance question- pre opening/after hours? OK, I am just a novice investor, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. How come on Yahoo Finance, sometimes after hours quotes or pre market quotes are listed and other times they are not? I'm not talking weekends and holidays, here. Today is Tuesday and I see no premarket on the stocks I track, but other times I do. Is it only for big movers? Now it is 9 am the opening bell is in a half hour, and the premarket quote has been posted.

Advertising Website business that takes goods or services for payment instead of cash.? Hi My boyfriend is exceptionally good at designing and building websites. He can create anything of any design or taste with special effects, videos etc etc on it. There are so many web design businesses out there that we decided to make ours with a difference - we will accept company stock or services from the business as payment for a top class website. This will appeal to people as they dont have to find a cash lay out to pay for a site which can run into the thousands for a really good professional site. Instead they use stock they already have or services they offer - i.e we do a holiday website we get free holiday / s that we can sell or keep at our discretion. This gives the smaller business's who cannot afford to pay for a website to still enjoy and benefit all that the world wide web can offer in extra marketing and sales. However i do not have a clue where to start to advertise. Can anyone advise any good sites? Thanks
Should Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft Be Sued over the lack of PS3,Wii,and XBOX360s ? I know that XBOX360 and Wii are more obtainable in some areas, except during the Christmas holiday, but who here thinks that these companies should be sued to the fullest extent of the law for deliberately not meeting consumer demand in order to price gouge and cause pandimonium, and also convict the people who are more or less "scalping" these systems by pre-ordering through contacts months in advance, then turning around and reselling them for as much as 6 times their actual value? I see online where places such as Ebay have PS3s anywhere from $100 over the actual MSRP to $4000 over and this very thing happend last season with the XBOX 360, it's an obvious market scam and I feel these companies owe the consumers restitution by some means and preferably a criminal lawsuit. If you remember Microsoft even came under fire for the first run of the XBOX 360s due to them "burning up", in other words they were cheaply made, highly marketed and poorly stocked. It pisses me off how they do. This is an additional note for all of you posting back to me saying I'm crazy for thinking this or telling me " It's perfectly normal to price gouge" No it's not, in fact if you will do some minor research you'll see it borders what is called "anti-trust" which is unfair business pratices such as "price-fixing and predatory pricing" from the business upon the consumer. So yes it IS wrong and maybe even illegal if anyone of you had the balls to stand up and challenge this, instead of lying down and accepting such ridiculously high costs.
I need help...(I live in Melbourne,Australia)? Im currently in Year 8 at my HIgh School (Aquinas College,Melbourne, Australia) and Im involved with the Aquinas College Symphonic Band, which I have recently found our is touring new zealand next year. I Want to go but the catch is that it is $1700 for everything. Also next year is the Liturgy trip which I also want to join. This trip will go to Paris, Rome and the Vatican City. This trip will cost around $6000 dollars. I really want to do the both trips and I don’t think of them like a holiday. My Parents said If I put the money in for New Zealand, they would pay for The Liturgy Trip. But they cannot pay for both. My Dad has also been interested with me being interested in investing into the Australian Stock Market. I need to make up $1700 by next year. I don’t necessarily want to tap into my savings unless they are the deposit for the shares (Il spend around $500 on shares) Is there any other way I can make money. Also If I do start in the Stock Market, what are some good shares? Uhhhhh Im only just 14...I cant get a job legally

What would be different if John Kerry was president? Against all odds, and despite the usual drumbeat of criticism, President George W. Bush has had a very good year. The troop surge in Iraq is succeeding. America remains safe from terrorist attacks. And the Goldilocks economy is outperforming all expectations. At his year-end news conference, President Bush stated with optimism that the economy is fundamentally sound, despite the housing downturn and the sub-prime credit crunch. The very next day, that optimism was reinforced with news of the best consumer spending in two years. The prophets of recessionary doom, such as former Fed chair Alan Greenspan, Republican advisor Martin Feldstein, ex-Democratic Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers, and bond-maven Bill Gross have been proven wrong once again. Calendar year 2007 looks set to produce 3 percent growth in real GDP, nearly 3 percent growth in consumer spending, and over 3 percent growth in after-tax inflation-adjusted incomes. Meanwhile, headline inflation (including food and energy) will have run at 2.5 percent, with only 2 percent core inflation. Jobs are rising over 100,000 per month and the stock market is set to turn in a respectable year despite enormous headwinds. Low tax rates, modest inflation, and declining interest rates continue to boost Goldilocks, which is still the greatest story never told. Bush’s optimism is well-earned, in Congress too. He has stopped a lot of bad legislation on higher taxing and spending. He won on S-CHIP and the alternative minimum tax. He mostly prevailed on domestic spending. And he got much of what he wanted on war funding without any pullout dates. And he’s not yet finished. In the most dramatic statement of his holiday news conference, Bush said he will not stand for the continuing congressional proliferation of pork-barrel earmarks. “Another thing that’s not responsible is the number of earmarks the Congress included in the massive spending bill,” said Bush. “The bill they just passed includes about 9,800 earmarks. Together with the previously passed defense spending bill, that means Congress has approved about 11,900 earmarks this year. And so I am instructing budget director Jim Nussle to review options for dealing with wasteful spending in the omnibus bill.” This is huge. The statute of limitations for Republican overspending, over-earmarking, and over-corrupting that caused huge congressional losses in last year’s campaign will not run out until the GOP shows taxpayers that it again can be trusted on the key issues of limited government and lower taxes. In these matters, Republicans must be holier than the pope. And while President Bush has been doing the Lord’s work with his newfound veto pen, he must continue to wage war on earmarks if the GOP is to cleanse the political memory of Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff, and Randy “Duke” Cunningham. Think of it: This behemoth spending-bill was porked-up with such essential items as rodent control in Alaska ($113,000); olive fruit-fly research in France ($213,000); a hunting and fishing museum in Pennsylvania ($200,000); a bike trail in Minnesota ($700,000); a post office museum in Las Vegas ($200,000); and a $2 million monument to Rep. Charlie Rangel in New York. Senators like Jim DeMint, Tom Coburn, and John McCain are working hard to clean up the earmark process. But the ball’s in the president’s court. Either through executive order, recission authority, or apportionment of funds, Bush can elevate both the fiscal fortunes of the nation and the political fortunes of his party. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell told me in a CNBC interview that elected politicians are more knowledgeable about spending people’s money than faceless bureaucrats. And while McConnell has done a terrific job maintaining conservative policies in the Senate, he is wrong on this topic. The earmarks shouldn’t be made. And the money shouldn’t be spent. Period. McConnell is nevertheless correct that passage of this omnibus spending bill is a defeat for the tax-and-spend-happy Democrats. Republicans also can take credit for outmaneuvering the Democrats on a patch for the AMT. The Democrats were made to waive the pay-as-you-go budget rule that might have forced tax increases on businesses and investment pools. Stopping this tax hike is a singular GOP achievement, while the AMT will now be indexed for inflation, thereby sparing over 20 million taxpayers. Looking ahead, the economy also would benefit from a corporate tax cut for both large and small businesses, including corporate capital-gains. The U.S. dollar would reap the rewards as new investment would flow in from the world. Several recent studies also show that businesses would pass on tax-cost savings to the workforce, thereby bolstering wages and ultimately creating new jobs. Hokey ideas for temporary tax rebates? They should be ignored. But if the president and Republicans are successful at wiping out earmarks, holding down spending, and passing a bold corporate tax cut, Goldilocks will be nourished and sustained. And come November 2008, Republicans might be back in the driver’s seat.

My feet are both blistered, I've got cramps in my legs. The cat just knocked over a bowl full of eggs. There's a knock at the door, and the telephones ringing; Frosting drips on the counter As the microwave's dinging. Two pies in the oven, Dessert's almost done; My cookbook is soiled with butter and crumbs. I've had alI I can stand, I can't take anymore; Then in walks my husband, Spilling rum on the floor. He weaves and he wobbles, his balance unsteady; Then grins as he chuckles "The eggnog is ready !" He looks all around and with total regret, Says "Whats taking so long.... Aren't you through in here yet??" As quick as a flash I reach for a knife; He loses an earlobe; I wanted his life! He flees from the room in terror and pain And screams "MY GOD WOMAN, YOU'RE GOING INSANE !!" Now what was I doing, and what is that smell? Oh sh*it it's the pies!! They're burned all to hell !! I hate to admit when I make a mistake, But I put them on BOIL Instead of on BAKE. What else can go wrong?? Is there still more ahead?? If this is good living, I'd rather be dead. Lord, don't get me wrong, I love holidays; It just leaves me exhausted, All shakey and dazed. But I promise you one thing, if I live till next year, You won't find me pulling My hair out in here. I'll hire a maid, a cook, and a waiter; And if that doesnt work, I'LL HAVE IT ALL CATERED !!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Santa's Pickup Lines 10. I was stressed out and not thinking very fondly of the Christmas season right then. It was dark, cold, and wet in the parking lot as I was loading my car up with gifts that I felt obligated to buy. Then I noticed that I was missing a receipt that I might need later. So mumbling under my breath, I retraced my steps to the mall entrance. As I was searching the wet pavement for the lost receipt, I heard a quiet sobbing. The crying was coming from a poorly dressed boy of about 12 years old. He was short and thin. He had no coat. He was just wearing a ragged flannel shirt to protect him from the cold night's chill. Oddly enough, he was holding a hundred dollar bill in his hand! Thinking that he had gotten lost from his parents, I asked him what was wrong. He told me his sad story. He said that he came from a large family. He had three brothers and four sisters. His father had died when he was nine years old. His mother was poorly educated and worked two full time jobs. She made very little to support her large family. Nevertheless, she had managed to skimp and save two hundred dollars to buy her children Christmas presents. The young boy had been dropped off by his mother, on the way to her second job. He was to use the money to buy presents for all his siblings and save just enough to take the bus home. He had not even entered the mall, when an older boy grabbed one of the hundred dollar bills and disappeared into the night. "Why didn't you scream for help?" I asked. The boy said, "I did." "And nobody came to help you?" I wondered. The boy stared at the sidewalk and sadly shook his head. "How loudly did you scream?" I inquired. The soft-spoken boy looked up and meekly whispered, "Help me!" I realized that absolutely no one could have heard that poor boy cry for help. So I grabbed his other hundred and ran to my car. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What If It Had Been 3 Wise WOMEN?? Hillary Clinton: The Tragedy Continues? Clinton II? Hillary Clinton: The Tragedy Continues by Michael S. Rozeff by Michael S. Rozeff DIGG THIS Hillary Clinton is more and more likely to become the next President of the United States. August 18, 2007 Michael S. Zapata's subsidiary, Zapata Offshore, later becomes known for its close ties to the CIA. 1954 The Bush family buys out the Liedtke brothers. 1955 George Bush sets up a Mexican drilling operation, Permago, with a frontman to obscure his ownership. The frontman later is convicted of defrauding the Mexican government of $58 million. 1959 Manuel Noriega recruited as an agent by the US Defense Intelligence Agency. 1960 Some investigators believe George Bush spent part of this year and the next in Miami on behalf of the CIA, organizing rightwing exiles for an invasion of Cuba. Is said to have worked with later Iran-Contra figure Felix Rodriguez. 1961 According to the Realist, CIA official Fletcher Prouty delivers three Navy ships to agents in Guatemala to be used in the Bay of Pigs invasion. Prouty claims he delivered the ships to a CIA agent named George Bush. Agent Bush named the ships the Barbara, Houston and Zapata. Bay of Pigs invasion fails. Right-wingers blame Kennedy for failure to provide air cover. CIA loses 15 men, another 1100 are imprisoned. George Bush invites Rep. TL. Ashley -- a fellow Skull & Boner -- down to Texas for a party in order to meet "an attractive girl." Bush writes that "she may be accompanied by an Austrian ski instructor but I think we can probably flush him at the local dance hall." Bush notes that he's had to unlist his phone because "Jane Morgan keeps calling me all the time." [From a letter in the Ashley archives uncovered by Spy magazine.] Zapata annual report boasts that the company has paid no taxes since it was founded. 1963 John F. Kennedy is assassinated. Internal FBI memo reports that on November 22 "reputable businessman" George H. W. Bush reported hearsay that a certain Young Republican "has been talking of killing the president when he comes to Houston." The Young Republican was nowhere near Dallas on that date. According to a 1988 story in The Nation, a memo from J. Edgar Hoover states that "Mr. George Bush of the CIA" had been briefed on November 23rd, 1963 about the reaction of anti-Castro Cuban exiles in Miami to the assassination of President Kennedy. George says it ain't him, admits he was in Texas but can't remember where. 1964 George Bush runs as a Goldwater Republican for Congress. Campaigns against the Civil Rights Act. 1966 Bush, runs as a moderate Republican, gets elected to Congress. Robert Mosbacher chairs Oil Men for Bush. Apache leader Ned Anderson meets with the Skull & Bones lawyer and George Bush's brother Jonathan who attempt to return the skull Prescott Bush had looted in 1933. Anderson refuses the skull because he says it isn't Geronimo's. 1968 George W. Bush joins Skull & Bones at Yale 1970 Bush loses Senate race to Lloyd Bentsen, despite $112,000 in contributions from a White House slush fund. Jim Baker is campaign chair. Bush later claims to have reported correctly all but $6000 in cash --which he denies he got. A 1992 story in the New York Times says the $6000 was listed in records of Nixon's "townhouse operation" which was designed in part to make GOP congressional candidates vulnerable to blackmail. 1971 Bush is named UN Ambassador by Nixon. Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs finds enough evidence of Noriega's involvement in drug dealing to indict him, but US Attorney's office in Miami considers grabbing Noriega in Panama for trial here to be impractical. State Department also urges BNDD to back off. 1972 Bill Liedtke gathers $700,000 in anonymous contributions for the Nixon campaign, delivering the money in cash, checks and securities to the Committee to Re-Elect the President (the infamous CREEP) one day before such contributions become illegal. Bill says he did it as a favor to George. 1973 Bush is named GOP national chair. Brings into the party the Heritage Groups Council, an organization with a number of Nazi sympathizers. Bush, according to Lowell Weicker, inquires as to whether records of the "townhouse operation" should be burned. Robert Mosbacher wins an offshore drilling concession from Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos. Watergate tapes indicate concern by Nixon and aide HR Haldeman that the investigation into Watergate might expose the "Bay of Pigs thing." Nixon also speaks of the "Texans" and the "Cubans." and mentions "Mosbacher." In another tape, Nixon decides following his re-election to get signed resignations from his whole government so he can centralize his power. Says Nixon to John Erlichman: "Eliminate everyone, except George Bush. Bush will do anything for our cause." 1974 Bush is named special envoy to China. 1975 DEA report notes Noreiga's involvement in drug trade. George W. Bush graduates from Harvard Business School 1976 Jerry Ford names George Bush CIA director, his fourth political patronage job in a little over five years. Bush later claims this is the first time he ever worked for the CIA. At his confirmation hearings, Bush says, "I think we should tread very carefully on governments that are constitutionally elected." Bush holds first known meeting with Noriega. Noriega starts receiving $110,000 a year from the CIA. Noriega found to be working for Cubans as well, but keeps his CIA gig. Bush sets up Team B within the CIA, a group of neo-conservative outsiders and generals who proceed to double the agency's estimate of Soviet military spending. Senate committee headed by Frank Church proposes revealing size of the country's black budget -- intelligence spending that, in contradiction to the Constitution, is kept secret even from the Hill. According to journalist Tim Weiner, Bush argues that the revelation would be a disaster and would compromise the agency beyond repair. By a one vote margin the matter is referred to the Senate. It never reaches the floor. Chilean dissident Orlando Letelier is assassinated by Chilean secret police agents. CIA fails to inform FBI of pending plot and of assassins' arrival in US. CIA claims the hit was the work of left-wingers in search of a martyr. Bush writes internal CIA memo asking to see cable on Jack Ruby visiting Santos Trafficante in jail. In 1992, Bush will deny any interest in the JFK assassination while CIA head. Bush claims nuclear war is winnable. 1977 Philippine dictator Marcos buys back Robert Mosbacher's oil concession. Mosbacher claims he was swindled. Philippine officials say they never saw any expenditures by Mosbacher on the project. 1978 Bush, Mosbacher and Jim Baker become partners in an oil deal. From a Washington Post article by Bob Woodward and Walter Pincus: "According to those involved in Bush's first political action committee, there were several occasions in 1978-79, when Bush was living in Houston and traveling the country in his first run for the presidency, that he set aside periods of up to 24 hours and told aides that he had to fly to Washington for a secret meeting of former CIA directors. Bush told his aides that he could not divulge his whereabouts, and that he would not be available." Former CIA chief Stansfield Turner denies such meetings took place. George W. Bush declares his candidacy for the Midland Congressional district. He wins the Republican primary and loses in the general election. George W. Bush begins operations of his oil firm, Arbusto Energy. With the help of Jonathan Bush, he assembles several dozen investors in a limited partnership including Dorothy Bush, Lewis Lehrman, William Draper, and James Bath, a Houston aircraft broker 1980 Bush becomes Reagan's vice presidential candidate. Runs as a rightwinger again. Mosbacher becomes chief fundraiser for Bush's presidential campaign. Forms a millionaire's club of 250 contributors, each of whom cough up $100,000. William Casey forms a working group to prepare for possible Carter October political surprise. In early October, an Iranian official meets with three top Reagan campaign aides. All three deny memory of the meeting in subsequent proceedings. On October 21, Reagan hints he has a secret plan to release the hostages. This is right around the alleged date of a Paris meeting at which the so-called "October Surprise" was settled. Some allege that at this meeting it was agreed to end the arms embargo against Iran if Iran would release its hostages after the election. While Bush's presence at this meeting has been denied by the House committee investigating the October Surprise, Bush's whereabouts at this critical time remain in doubt. The White House, in fact, has leaked conflicting stories. Rep. Dan Quayle goes on a Florida golfing vacation with seven other men and Paula Parkinson -- an insurance lobbyist who later posed nude for Playboy. Parkinson describes Quayle as a husband on the make, but says she turned him down because she was already having an affair with another congressman. Marilyn Quayle says, "anybody who knows Dan Quayle knows he would rather play golf than have sex." The Reagan-Bush campaign receives stolen copies of Carter's briefing books. Bush's campaign manager, James Baker, forces the dismissal of Bush aide Jennifer Fitzgerald, described in a 1982 Time story as having "much to say about where Bush goes, what he does and whom he sees." Bush continues to pay Fitzgerald out of his own pocket. 1981 Reagan-Bush inaugurated. Hostages released moments before. Shortly thereafter, arms shipments to Iran resume from Israel and America. In July, an Argentinean plane chartered by Israel crashes in Soviet territory. It is found to have made three deliveries of American military supplies to Iran. In a 1991 story in Esquire, Craig Unger quotes Alexander Haig as saying "I have a sneaking suspicion that someone in the White House winked." Says Unger: "This secret and illegal sale of military equipment continued for years afterwards." James Baker named Reagan's chief of staff. SEC filings for Zapata Oil for 1960-66 are found to have been "inadvertently destroyed." Reagan authorizes CIA assistance to Contras. 1982 CIA director William Casey begins Operation Black Eagle to expand US role in Central America. Urges use of "selected Latin American and European governments, organizations and individuals" in the project. Inslaw, a computer software company, signs a $10 million contract to install a case-tracking program in 94 US Attorney's offices. Four months later, after obtaining a copy of Inslaw's proprietary version of the program, the government cancels the contract and begins an aggressive campaign to force the company into bankruptcy. Later sources claim that the program was installed by the CIA and sold to various foreign intelligence agencies. After $3 million is poured into Arbusto with little oil and no profits, just tax shelter George W. Bush changes the company name to Bush Exploration Oil Co. Subsequently he is kept afloat by an investment from Philip Uzielli, a Princeton friend of James Baker III. For the sum of $1 million, Uzielli bought 10% of the company at a time in 1982 when the entire enterprise was valued at less than $400,000. Subsequently, to save the company George W. Bush merges with Spectrum 7, a small oil firm owned by William DeWitt and Mercer Reynolds. DeWitt had graduated from Yale a few years earlier than Bush and was the son of the former owner of the Cincinnati Reds. Bush becomes president of Spectrum 7. He also gets 14% of the Spectrum's stock. Meanwhile, 50 original investors in Arbusto get paid off at about 20 cents on the dollar. 1983 Noriega meets again with George Bush. Bush presents an autographed photo to a WWII Ukrainian leader under the Nazis, whose regime killed 100,000 Jews. KAL 007 crashes under circumstances that remain suspicious to this day. Bush promotes Jennifer Fitzgerald from appointments secretary to executive assistant. Seven staffers resign in protest. Fitzgerald tells the New York Post: "Everyone keeps painting me as this old ogre. I really don't worry about it. All these bizarre things just simply aren't true." Neil Bush forms his first oil company. He puts in $100, his partners contribute $160,000 and Neil is named president of the firm, JNB Exploration. Jeb Bush's business partner, Alberto Duque, goes bankrupt, is eventually convicted of fraud and is sentenced to 15 years in prison. 1984 Jeb Bush lobbies the Department of Health & Human Services on behalf of Cuban--American businessman Miguel Recarey, Jr., whose medical firm later collapses. Recarey, who was close to mobster Santos Trafficante, later disappears with at least $12 million in federal funds. George Bush takes part in meetings to plan increased "third country" aid to the Contras.. CIA mines Nicaraguan harbors. 1985 Jennifer Fitzgerald is sent to work on Capitol Hill after stories arise linking her romantically with George Bush. Stuart Spencer's public relation firm starts receiving over $350,000 from Panama to improve Noriega's image. CIA starts using BCCI as a conduit. George Bush thanks Oliver North for "dedication and tireless work with the hostage thing, with Central America." Bush will later deny knowing about the Contra effort until late 1986. Neil Bush joins the board of Silverado S&L, serves until 1988. Silverado loans his partners in JNB $132 million which they never repay. Silverado will eventually collapse at a taxpayer cost of $1 billion. 408 TOW anti-tank missiles are shipped from Israel to Iran. A day later, US hostage Benjamin Weir is released. 1986 VP Bush goes to Honduras to promote support for the Contras. Takes along baseball players Nolan Ryan and Gary Carter. Contra figure Felix Rodriguez meets with Donald Gregg, Bush's national security advisor, to complain about Iran-Contra operatives skimming funds from the Contras. Bush may have made several secret visits to Damascus between 1986-88 according to a 1992 report in Time, which said two senior GOP senators were pressing for a probe. The allegation is that Bush went to negotiate the release of hostages in Lebanon but in fact stonewalled Syria, "playing for campaign timing. Republicans want to get to the bottom of intelligence-community suspicions that the US somehow blew a chance to free Terry Anderson and his fellow captives." Iranian arms runner Manucher Ghorbanifar proposes "diversion" of profits from Iran arms sales to Contras. George W. Bush and partners receive more than $2 million of Harken Energy stock in exchange for a failing oil well operation, which had lost $400,000 in the prior six months. After Bush joined Harken, the largest stock position and a seat on its board were acquired by Harvard Management Company. The Harken board gave Bush $600,000 worth of the company's publicly traded stock, plus a seat on the board plus a consultancy that paid him up to $120,000 a year. When Harken runs short of cash it hooks up with investment banker Jackson Stephens of Little Rock, Arkansas, who arranges a $25 million stock purchase by Union Bank of Switzerland. Sheik Abdullah Bakhsh, who joins the board as a part of the deal, is connected to the infamous BCCI. 1987 Bush's former chief of staff, Daniel Murphy, flies to Panama with South Korean influence peddler Tongsun Park on a private plane owned by arms dealer Sargis Soghnalian to meet with Noriega. Murphy later tells a Senate subcommittee that he informed Noriega that he need not resign before the 1988 election despite the Reagan administration public pressure to the contrary. Bill Casey dies. Lee Atwater accuses Robert Dole of spreading stories about Bush and Jennifer Fitzgerald. An agreement is worked out, as reported by Sidney Blumenthal in the Washington Post: "The Dole people didn't spread any rumors and promised not to do it again. And the Bush people haven't spread rumors about the Dole people spreading rumors and won't do it again." Harken Energy project gets rescued by aid from the BCCI-connected Union Bank of Switzerland in a deal brokered by Jackson Stephens, later to show up as a key supporter of Bill Clinton. 1988 Dan Quayle is named VP candidate.
