Stock trading and tax consequences? I recently started investing in the stock market. I initially started with the idea that I'd invest in 5 diversified ETF's or Index Funds and just let it sit . . . . .the idea being I wouldn't incur any tax penalties for a few years. I got tired of waiting for those funds to get moving, so I sold those shares and am now invested in ~15 fairly diversified stocks and have been actively trading for profit (and losses, of course). If things continue the way they are, I will hopefully have a nice profit . . . I'm just concerned that taxes are going to kill me. In the books I've read, there are two prominant themes: 1) Taxes + Fund Expenses + Trading Commissions will erode any profits you may have made trading. Just stay invested in a few diversified index funds and rebalance once per year. or 2) If you're paying taxes, it's because you're making money. It's not a bad thing to have to pay taxes. Trade away. Help with stock trading please...? I'm 19 years old and i have been very interested in the stock market for quite some time now. I'm not interested in investing big bucks at this point in time, but maybe in the near future. Should I flip my ESPP stock? I got a new job six months ago at a large company with an employee stock purchase plan. Since then, I have been setting 15% of my income aside to purchase stock. The plan has both a look-back provision and a 15% discount. The stock is currently trading about 10% higher than it was when I enrolled, so I will use the look-back provision to purchase stock at 85% of the trading price last November. Are there any clever CPAs out there who can give me advice on whether I should flip the stock or hold it until November 2008 so that it will only be subject to long-term capital gains tax? We live in America, but have stock in the UK, please help!? We live in the US, but my husband works for a UK-based company and was recently awarded stocks by this company. This stock (trading in the UK) has decreased in value rapidly since we received it a few months ago, meaning that we're paying taxes on the value awarded, but the shares are only worth what we owe in taxes for them :(. In any case, we're trying to determine ... should we keep the stock and hope it goes back up? Should we sell all of the stock now before it drops any more? Should we keep some of the stock, but sell a percentage and re-invest in other UK stocks to diversify our UK-portfolio? Our other thought is to sell all the stock and invest the money in an apartment / home in the UK that we would keep over time in hopes of long term appreciation. We plan to continue living in the US for now, but may at some point want to re-locate to the UK so it will be nice to have some money there. Any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Can i buy a stock today ...and sell it tomorow if its something like $1.5 up?...is it allowed to do so? and is it what i should be doing?.....what effects does that have (+/-ve)... i need an advice...and i wanna know why people hold on to their stocks for months/years... thank u so much

I am doing "Day Trading" in stock market. Am I eligible to receive "Unemployment Benefit"? I am currently receiving Unemployment Insurance Benefit and I am about to open an "Day Trading Stock Account"...that I buy and Sell stock several times per day. For some reason, I am expecting to earn some $$$ regulary...per month. Does it consider as an "Other Income"???? Some people say it's not because it's an investment. However, what i going to do is not a long term investment and there will be lot of buy, sell transactions per day. - I will be expecting some thousands of dollars per month. Am I still eligible to receive unemployment benefits???? I am in California and......to open an stock trading account, i will submit my Social Security # and all the information. A question regarding buying and selling stocks? Through online investing is their a method where I can put an amount that I want to buy the stock, and an amount I want to sell it so that it can be done automatically without me watching the stock every day waiting for the right moment. If there is, what is the name of this term, who offers it and is this offered in real time. If I want to sell the stock at 10.00 if somewhere during the day it reaches that point will it automatically sell or does this system take the price at the end of the day? Investing Advice? I am 15 years old and have made $2,500 off stock trading in my first month of trading. I trade new IPO's such as China Digital TV and Longtop Financial. I began on the 8th with initial capital of $3,200 and now have $5,700 but I am not sure whether only to play with the profit I have made or continue risking my intial capital by keeping investing with it. I really dont have much to lose because I am only 15. I know I am bound to have a bad IPO and lose 20%. What do you think?

I want to place order to trade stock on bse/nse exchange exactly at 9:55 am,can i have timer set in computer? I miss to buy shares on the stock exchange because there are some shares which hit the upper circuit at the opening bell and there are smart buyers who are able to place order before me on the exchange. I think, I miss it by a few seconds.This i want to overcome and want to be first to place the buy ORDER ON THE EXCHANGE at 9:55 am precisely. Please advice me how I can overcome? Can I have some sort of timer in my computer so that can trigger exactly at 9:55 am for a particular script.
