Why is the stock trading cost, lower than the aquization cost? I am a stockholder for a company called eFunds (EFD), it recently got acquired by Fidelity for a individual cash purchase with each stock valued at $36.50, however the stock is presently trading at $35.33, even after the news came out. My question specifically is why does a cost disparity exist? Wouldn't investors by at the low rate and then when the deal closes make a garunteed quick buck?

what do you think of this stock trading theory? I am sure I am not the first to try this approach. It's based on the formula that every time you increase your principle by1 percent, then every time you do this 100 times, your principle will be double. so if you average 1 percent gain on selling a stock, and you do this 20 times a day then your principle will double every 5 days. I imagine there is something similar to this that day traders try to do. I know you will never consistently make one percent on every trade, but if you average that, then it still works out. Gaining one percent on a stock isn't that hard, is it?

If it goes up, but hasn't reached the initial cost (for buying the very first hold), do the ones bought later go up in value, while the ones bought primarily still stay in the negative since it hasn't passed the loss threshold in respect to them?

My idea is to wait for particular stock to rise 2 - 3 dollar per share price and sale it and pick another stock. In a year my aim is to get 1000 - 2000 dollars as gain of my investment. My questions are - a) Am I doing the right thing or is there any better idea ? b) Generally I fill up 1040EZ form for IRS, but with this kind of stock trading and transaction of say 10 - 12 per year saling stock and making small gain at short interval. What kind of form I need to fill up for IRS ? c) For stock trading and educating self for filing IRS return - where should I get information on IRS publication ? As how to file return and what to consider for paying gain tax. d) I use H & R block software

Low Price Stock Trading - massive activity - question? I'm looking for the reason or logic that is behind recent trading activity I'm witnessing. XXX, trades as a OTC penny stock. I have shares that I bought through my normal brokerage account, just as anyone can. XXX is trading at massively high trading volumes now for months, with little to no change in share price. Average daily volume 333,281,908 shares. Several days with well over a billion shares traded. XXX's web site states that there are 10 bil shares outstanding. One last fact, the stock price has plummeted over these months. At .0001 per share during the massive volume period. My question is: How, with only 10 billion shares outstanding, can XXX be so actively traded at this volume and why would XXX sit at the same price and trade billions of shares, when all press and reports about the company are positive? My take is that someone is deliberately swapping shares, huge chunks at a time, at ridiculously low prices to keep the stock price down? Why go to the expense?

I heard that you can deduct $3000 of your stock losses against your income when calculating your annual income tax. What I am not clear is the following: 1. If I started trading in stocks beginning July 07 and had a net gain of $1700 for the year, would it be better for me to keep this as a gain and get it taxed or should I realize some losses to clear out this gain (I have some stocks on my portfolio which are down, but I have not realized it as it is not sold).? 2. If my net losses are only $1 for the year from stock trading, would I be able to deduct $3000 against my total income or would I be able to deduct only the loss of $1?

Hi, I'm interested into getting into day trading in the future and had a question about partial fills (ie: you place an order for 1,000 shares, but only get a fill for 100 at a particular price). How many shares (or amount of equity) of a heavily traded Fortune 500 company can you typically trade in a single transaction without getting partial fills. What about if you use Market orders vs. Limit Orders? For instance, if you were to place an order for $100,000 of Google stock via a Market order, would you typically get the entire order filled immediately? What about if you try to sell $100,000 at Market? What about if you do Limit orders vs. Market orders? I would like to be able to trade very large quantities frequently during the day and would like to know if I'm going to need to account for partial fills. Thanks so much! (In response): Thanks, yes, I've been doing analysis for a couple of years now and know enough to be dangerous =). The reason I mentioned the dollar amount as opposed to the number of shares is my assumption that there is a rough dollar amount to when you start reaching limits as opposed to quantities of shares. For instance, which is more likely to get a partial fill (all other things being equal): 200 shares of a $500.00 stock 2,000 shares of a $50.00 stock Is it better to day trader larger value stocks to reduce the chance of a partial fill or does it not matter?

Tax forms for stock trading? I am going to take an account with an LLC for stock trading (my friend does trading with this LLC and he is going to help me to set up). They will send me a K1 form at the end of the year for filing tax (like a partnership tax form i guess). My question is is it same form you get with any discount broker? for example scottrade. Do they provide the same K1 form at the end of the year. Or is it a different form?
